The head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, Alexei Pushkov, invited Ukraine to pay contributions to the Council of Europe instead of Russia.
Earlier on Monday, January 22, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland announced Russia’s pledge to pay a contribution in February this year.
“In CE, another contribution of Russia is expected in February. But, while Russia’s rights in the PACE have not been restored, there will be no contribution. Let Ukraine pay for us, “Pushkov wrote in his microblog on Twitter.
Previously, Pushkov said that there was an acute crisis in the Council of Europe, and he proposed “now to pay” to Ukraine.
Last June, Russia announced that it intends to suspend some payments to the budget of the Council of Europe, since it has not been taking part in the sessions of the PACE for three years. Moscow declined to participate after the Russian delegation was deprived of the right to vote and a number of other powers in 2014-2015.
