The Russian anti-aircraft missile and cannon system (PTRC) “Pantsir-S” is an ideal weapon for repulsing massive attacks using drones. There is no such thing in the US, the American edition of the National Interest reports.
As noted in the material, during the actions of the Russian military in Syria, these ZRPK repeatedly knocked down missiles and drones. For example, in December 2017, they struck two missiles launched by militants at the air base of Khmeimim.
According to the author of the article, journalists almost do not discuss the “Pantsir-S” complexes because of their short range, in contrast, for example, from the S-400 air defense system. He also emphasizes that “Shell” can cope not only with missiles and drones, but also low-flying aircraft and helicopters.
ZRPK, according to the material, is located on the truck, which allows him to move quickly and easily. The “Shell” has two 30-millimeter cannons, each of them can do 40 rounds per second, as well as 12 anti-aircraft missiles.
In early January, it was reported that on December 31 at the airbase Khemeymim was attacked, which allegedly destroyed seven aircraft. Subsequently, the Ministry of Defense explained that the mortar shelling was indeed, two servicemen were killed, the planes were not damaged. In December, another attack was reported, then it was reflected “Pantsiri-S1”.
